“Oh, Frabjous Day!”

It’s been a while since I did a Heroclix repaint, and this time it’s another of Batman’s rogues gallery: Jervis Tetch, aka the Mad Hatter.

From DC FanDOM: Jervis Tetch, formerly a research scientist, is completely smitten with the works of Lewis Carroll. As his criminal name indicates, he takes the appearance of the Mad Hatter from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. He is an insane neuroscientist and developed hardware that can control the brain and induce hypnotic states, and often uses hats or other headgear for mind control.

Originally, the Hatter was a villain who committed robberies using his mind-controlling hats; nowadays, his motivations are a lot darker, as in addition to hats, he seems to be obsessed with kidnapping little girls named Alice. (Yep. It’s exactly what you think.)

This version of the Mad Hatter comes from the original DC Heroclix Hypertime set. He’s a redhead and he looks like a leprechuan; a bit too colorful for my tastes.

Here is my repaint. The Hatter is flanked by two miniatures from Lucid Eye’s Beast of Birchwood line, the “Sleeping Hare” and the “Sleeping Field Mouse”. I gather this game is a Victorian horror-themed skirmish game, so they fit right into Tetch’s Wonderland obsession as the March Hare and the Dormouse, thugs in his employ; or perhaps, more fittingly, under his mental control. What tough guy is going to willingly dress up as a bunny, after all?

Worst. Birthday Party. Ever.

Now that is a fabulous re-paint and a massive improvement overt the “St Patricks day” original! Nice work on the “hit-men” too.

Oh you really don’t want to know what I thought about there!!!

Alice Cooper better watch out eh!

    Cheers Roger.

Glad to see you’re alive and well, Roger! Thanks for the kind words! I always found the Hatter to be a bit dark, creepy predilections aside. He’s definitely portrayed as a psychopath in the Batman: Arkham series of video games, and even his treatment on the Gotham TV show depicts him as highly unstable, rather than just plain silly.
I bought the Lucid Eye guys when Recreational Conflict was having a sale back in December…I knew right away what I would use them for. Sadly, it’s a small line at the moment. Hopefully we’ll get more weirdly-dressed animals with boxing gloves soon…

A brilliant repaint of a character I was aware of, but did not realise was quite as…twisted. I had also seen those figures from Lucid Eye (being a fan of Steve Saleh’s sculpting) but could think of no project for which they could be used. Great idea. Of course, this has now made me want a figure of that obscure Marvel villainess the White Rabbit – in her original costume naturally – as I was always a fan of her…and thought if she ever got together with the Crazy Gang from Captain Britain’s rogue’s gallery, that would be awesome. Hmmm, now that gives me an idea…

I recall playing the Punisher in a TSR Marvel Super Heroes RPG session, back when I was in high school. The GM decided to use the White Rabbit as the “opening act”, so to speak…
      Turns out she wasn’t bulletproof.
Thanks for the kind words, Jez.
