Giant Scorpion

Monster May(hem) continues with my latest submission: a Giant Scorpion (and some smaller, yet still quite large scorpions). from Reaper. These Bones miniatures are define what an “impulse buy” is to me. I had no need for either the huge scorpion or its little brothers, yet I bought them to “pad” an order to get free shipping, as I recall. I’ve had these for a few years now. Since I’m finding any excuse NOT to work on the big monster I have vowed to paint by month’s end, I painted these guys instead.

The good news is that even though I don’t really have a use in mind, much like Rrrraaaaaang, this beastie can be quite versatile.

Kip Kincaid and Sarah Litmus are beginning to regret exploring Planet X…
Perhaps Lara should have done more research on why it’s called “The Temple of Stingy-Sting-Sting.”
The wizard said hunting for spell components was quick and easy work. The wizard lied.
Epitaph: “Clean Head” McGee. Never backed down from a fight.

Matt from PMPainting just completed an amazing-looking Cthulhu model for his third submission of the month, and Harry painted a Warhammer High Elf Dragon, after painting a Wood Elf Dragon just last month. Now I literally have no more excuses not to tackle my own big fellah…but I’ll probably find one before long.

Excellent work on the scorpions! The off-white and blue is a great colour scheme and executed really well.

I’m now dying to see the big monster you’re aiming to get done.

I, too, have bought stuff from Reaper just to hit the magical free shipping total. It’s how I ended up with a punk rock guitarist and a few other minis.

    My third submission is up!

Just noticed yours was up, Matt. I will edit this post accordingly.
My big guy, when and if I get him posted, will not be anywhere near as cool as that Cthulhu you did. Bravo, man!

S’all good. Sometimes I make Roger giggle like a schoolgirl when I compliment his sculpting, and Jeremy has been known to fan himself at my praise.

I about chocked when i read your reply Mr Piper! That is some good stuff. The scorpion is fantastic. I never had a need fo ascorpion. But i might need to find one now!

Completed pics of the dragon are up in a new post. And some extras.

Awesome, Harry. Great work on the dragon and the unicorns and treekin! I’ll remind everyone in my next post to check out everyone else’s submissions. I’m still working on my big guy, and it looks like it’s going to come down to the wire. If I can get anything other than him done before the end of the month it will be a miracle.

Great work Keith, I really like the white and blue colour scheme, I would never have thought of that!

Love the pictures too, I’ll have to try a little set dressing like that when i post my entry tomorrow.

Oh and it seems only right that I should giggle like a schoolgirl, after all I’m am dressed as one!!

    Cheers Roger.

Thanks, Roger. I was going to go with a white and green palette, but at the last minute I noticed some of the terrain I painted up for Star Trek, and just thought it looked pretty cool. Can’t wait to see your entry painted up.
      Schoolgirl? Roger, really now…

I have to say, the big scorpion is very reminiscent of the Skitari from the last (crap) season of Doctor Who. Basically, I feel this is more of a sci-fi scorpion, rather than a fantasy one. And the paint job is very cool – almost bone and neon, so I can imagine this as a techno-organic construct in Neo-Tokyo. Very nice work, Keith.

Thanks, Jeremy. As you see, I was imagining all kinds of uses for it, since I didn’t have anything in mind when I bought it. Dr. Fu Manchu used to make all kinds of mutant insects…perhaps this one is his version of the Rancor…
